Located at a dominant corner site in Carlton, Victoria, which is a dynamic suburb to the north of Melbourne city, the social housing complex aims to provide a sustainable and affordable housing solution for low income communities. It will serve as the backdrop of the future community health centre proposal, occupying 70% of the site. The architectural approach seeks not only to meet practical needs but also to imbue the development with a distinctive and poetic character.
Harmonizing with the urban melody, the design seamlessly integrates, speaking the language of the neighbourhood through carefully chosen materials and proportions. Negative space is transformed into a communal sonnet, where courtyards and shared gardens echo with the vitality of community life. Each dwelling becomes a stanza in the architectural narrative, celebrating diversity and individuality, ensuring that every resident finds resonance within the complex.
